THE ROLE OF THE EXISTING RAILWAYS IN IRAQ IN SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
Abstract
Iraq's railway system, with its rich historical legacy and strategic geographic positioning, holds immense potential for driving sustainable development across various fronts. This study evaluates the pivotal role of railways in Iraq's sustainable development, encompassing economic, environmental, and transportation considerations.
The assessment begins with an analysis of the current state of Iraq's railway infrastructure, identifying dormant lines and their potential for reactivation. Reactivating these lines emerges as a cost-effective and expeditious strategy, capable of reinvigorating economic activity, mitigating traffic congestion, and reducing environmental pollution.
Moreover, the study proposes the creation of new railway routes, both domestically and internationally, to bolster economic growth, enhance trade relations, and optimize transportation efficiency. These proposed routes leverage existing infrastructure where feasible, ensuring economic feasibility and expeditious implementation.
In summary, this research underscores the profound significance of railways in Iraq's sustainable development journey. Reactivating existing lines and expanding the network represent critical steps towards economic revitalization, reduced environmental impact, and strengthened trade relationships. The multifaceted approach presented here outlines a path towards a more sustainable and prosperous future for Iraq.
